During the past months, we’ve been working on a massive update for Forge, and it is finally here! From today onwards, Forge 1.4.0 is available on the repository. And to put it simply, it’s a blazing fast update.

Read on to see how you can build sites faster than ever!

Non-disrupting page building

Forge is already a fast page builder. The fact that you can build things directly on your website means you get instant feedback– there is no more need to save and preview every small change.

However, Forge was being held back by some actions which disrupted your workflow. Things like adding or editing elements completely froze the interface, since the builder saves every single action you make.

Even if the pause was just for a brief second, it all adds up. And there is a lot more you could do in that time.

Asynchronous page building is here

In Forge 1.4.0, that changes completely. Instead of forcing you to stop at every little action, the page builder is now asynchronous. This means actions are done at the same time you work on something else. For example:

  • You can now add elements one after the other without pause
  • Saving elements is now instant, and only the affected element is locked
  • Copying elements is now instant, too

This results in a much, much smoother page building experience. Take a look:

Responsive Builder Preview

forge-responsive-viewSpeed is not the only thing that’s changed. In this new version, we have completely overhauled the page builder so that the website preview you see is separate from the page builder interface.

What does this mean? It means the window showcasing your website can now be resized into mobile versions of your website!

Forge now allows you to resize your website into three additional sizes:

  • Laptop view (small screens of up to 1024px)
  • Table view (768px wide, in a tall format)
  • Smartphone view (375px wide)

This way, you can test how your layout responds when resizing the browser window, with just one single click. If you want to create a great responsive experience, this is a must-have.

This change has the added benefit of making the builder immune to interference from other plugins. In other words, it brings a lot more stability and security to the whole platform.

More To Come

With this update, you can build great pages way faster than before! Make sure to check out the latest version of Forge in the official plugin repository, or simply update the one in your WordPress website.

As always, let us know what you think!
